urban renewal

menswear blazer $58

levi's destroyed shorts $28

oversized flannel $38

leather mini $58

if you haven't heard of the urban renewal collection at urban outfitters, check it out immediately. there are a few pieces available online, but to get the really good stuff you've got to hit the store. UO is recycling older clothing items that didn't sell the first go-round and creating a super cool vintage line by compiling the pieces to create new ones. each item is hand-picked and 100% unique.

a touch of rope

photo via jak&jil

sylvana soto-ward, accessories editor at vogue wearing balmain. simply stunning.
i don't know if it is because i associate rope with a yacht and olive green with a summer tan, but i am perpetually drawn to both of these things in the world of fashion. especially here, where they stand perfectly juxtaposed. if i were to expand my korcula shoe line (which now consists only of alligator and stingray sandals) it would have the look and feel of these balmains...i hope.

mr. larkin

photos via mr. larkin
eco-friendly. sustainable. fashionable. casey larkin, the emerging talent behind the eco project mr. larkin, has some of the most inventive, whimsical and beautiful clothing designs i've seen in the green market, or any market for that matter. did i mention her tags are plantable? her spring '09 collection (pictured above, more here) was inspired by the world of the vintage circus. my order for "sunny" and "amber" is already in.

island living

i dug up these old photos of the european excursion i took after college a few years back. this is the lovely island of hvar where my dear friend jennifer and i lived for about a month. the time i spent here is part of the inspiration behind the birth of korcula, a neighboring island that makes up part of the dalmation archipelago. i simply cannot wait to return, this time sporting my nautical creations, frolicking around in this and securing my luggage with this.

vintage balenciaga

photo via intermix
finally, the wait is over. i have discovered the perfect pair of sunnies after a grueling five month scour. the stroke of genius aside from the subtle cat eye and bluish-purplish-charcoal gradient lens? one black stem and one white. thank you, balenciaga.

grandpa chic

photo via coolspotters

i finally tracked down this oversized grandpa cardigan at the los angeles Urban Outfitters. sometimes lauren conrad's street style is so spot on. i plan to wear it with these elizabeth and james dandy shorts over black tights:

and these pieces from korcula:

laura ring

Inspiration: Exoticism

photo via town and country , photograpghy: Matthew Septimus

what better way to start this blog than with an image employing the exotic nature upon which Korucla was founded? if/when i have a runway show at Bryant Park, the models will be made up in dramatic lashes, defined cheekbones and tall ponytails with ribbons like the brightly adorned women of Oaxaca.
