buying time

when it comes to beauty products, i am a sucker for a good marketing campaign and pretty packaging. if you tell me it is a cream developed from a magical sea kelp harvested once a year, i will believe you, and slather it on my skin daily waiting for something miraculous to occur. unfortunately, after experiment upon experiment and countless dollars spent, there was no big miracle, no ah-ha moment.

that is, until i discovered vbeauté Buying Time. after my interview with Julie Macklowe, the founder of  vbeauté, her team sent over an It Kit and naturally i started testing out the various products. i was looking for an intense moisturizing cream that would not cause me to break out, a task much more difficult than it seems. within about a week of using Buying Time, my miracle started taking shape. my skin is brighter, more even and glowing.

i am obsessed.

seriously, ladies. this stuff is magical.

the hot street style item during Paris fashion week in September was the Kenzo tiger sweatshirt. i searched high and low for one of my own, but, as the French man informed at the store on Rue de Rennes in Saint-Germain-Des-Pres, "i am sorry, but that is sold out everywhere". le sigh.

i thought i had missed the opportunity to sport the brand's signature mascot until i discovered these amazing Kenzo tiger flats from the resort 2013 collection. i think they will be SO much fun to mix with various prints and little dresses.

holiday sparkle

three key pieces you need to get you through all of those upcoming holiday soirees. instead of breaking the bank on a sequin dress, i suggest splurging on accessories. you will find that you can get so much more wear out of a sparkly shoe or red mini bag than a seasonal clothing item. this Lanvin "happy mini" is on my Christmas list this year - i plan to wear it year round.

Astor Place

my best friend gave me a bottle of Astor Place by Bond No. 9 during my bachelorette weekend and i have been hooked ever since. the key notes are both floral and musky and the bottle is ever so pretty. i love the idea of collecting a variety of scents all by Bond No. 9 to make a beautiful display on my vanity.

do you have a signature scent?

animal kingdom

{alexander wang prisma tote - (on sale), proenza schouler chieko bag - (on sale), YSL chyc shoulder bag - (on sale), alexander wang pelican clutch - (on sale), celine mini luggage tote in leopard}

"To be tired of leopard, is to be tired of life." - LSD

....and what about this emerging deer skin trend on bags? like? dislike? cruel - er than usual? i'd love to know your thoughts.

if you are shopping the sales searching for an investment piece or simply something to put on your Christmas list this year, i highly recommend a leopard or deer print handbag. leopard will be timeless, deer skin a bit trendy.

Barbarian Romance

plaids, tartans, tweeds and argyles dominated Linlithgow Palace in Scotland yesterday, where Karl Lagerfeld showed his collection for Chanel pre-fall 2013. the inspiration all came from Scotland, of course, where Lagerfeld payed homage to Coco's time spent there with her lover, Duke of Westminster and also to Mary Queen of Scots.

the dramatic collars, high necks, earth tones and equestrian style ankle boots felt like the cross pollination of Chanel and Ralph Lauren in the 1700's, not to say that Lagerfeld would ever derive his genius from another designer. the romanticism of the Scottish countryside with it's castles and royals created a feeling of "Barbarian Romance" as described by the designer.

i'll take an immediate cue from the runway by wearing argyle tights with earth tones and a high neck blouse.

mongolian faux fur

i have been on the hunt for the perfect gorilla-esque shaggy fur to wear with leather skinnies - to me this look is very Kate Moss. alas, i found one, from ASOS (budg friendly) and in three colors, no less. so now the dire question...which color??

i certainly wouldn't mind it if this sexy little Selena set made it's way into my stocking this year. lingerie is one of my favorite gifts to give and receive; it's something i never buy for myself yet love having and wearing.

p.s.- have you ever worn a garter belt? i have not but think it would be really fun!

Fashion Houston hair and make-up

i just have to take a moment to gush about Therapy Hair Studio here in Houston. they so generously offered to do my hair and make-up for last night's Fashion Houston shows, and while i am typically the type of girl who makes these appointments and then runs home to wash my hair and scrub my face because i feel like i don't look like myself at all, i absolutely loved the look they created. Aubrie, the make-up artist at Therapy, is seriously like, a make-up guru. she used to be the assistant to Laura Mercier, so she truly understands her craft, and works off of the structure of the woman's face to what best compliments you. if you look closely, you can see how she put a bit of nude liner on the bottom of my lids, to brighten the eyes. i'm pretty sure most women probably already know this trick and i am sure i have been told before, but now i am listening. she also instructed me to stop throwing away hundreds of dollars on fancy mascara because the best one is across the street at your local pharmacy.

in a nut shell, i loved her work, and highly recommend you book her for your next event. thank you also to Kelly, who did an awesome job on my blowout!

tuesday dream

today, i dream of Jeannie Elvis. the Charlotte Elvis in "chalk", to be exact. A.K.A, Isabel Marant's latest brainchild of sheer bad-assness for le feet. i saw them come stomping down the runway at the Couvent de Cordeliers at her s/s2013 runway show in Paris, and now they shall be mine. the only issue is, i somehow missed the trunk show on Moda Operandi (sipping too many mai tais in Hawaii) and now have to wait like a stalker for their release on Net-a-porter, hoping they picked them up in my chosen color. wish me luck (sigh).

head over to CultureMap to read my full review of the Isabel Marant s/s2013 collection.

UPDATE: Houston's Katia boutique picked these up for spring. in this exact color. YES.

{Alice and Olivia sweater (old, similar here), Velvet textured leggings from Abejas Boutique (available online here), Del Toro slippers from Moda Operandi, James Perse tank top in Pearl Gray here, Celine bag}

these Velvet textured leggings are my new favorite piece (and at only $140, i consider them very reasonable). they are so perfect for daytime or travel paired with flats, and transition well to night with stilettos and a blouse. i have started working these James Perse tank tops back into daily rotation - they are the ideal basic for layering.

stocking up: zara basics

{black vest, to be worn with a white tank + leather skirt}
{classic trench, to be worn belted as a dress, with over the knee brown suede boots}
{Isabel Marant inspired silk blouse, to be worn with leather pants, leather leggings or cropped denim}
{simple black satin sandal, perfectly delicate}
{updated LBD, to be worn with a blazer draped over the shoulders}

i am in the process of updating my fall wardrobe; putting away the summer dresses, breaking out the sweaters, purchasing a few investment pieces and filling in with seasonal basics. Zara is pretty right on right now in terms of styling and simple wardrobe staples, and per usual, i have my classic black and whites (with a touch of navy this season) on heavy rotation.

Kauai Part 2

currently missing mai tais, extra long lunches and extreme relaxation.

my computer broke while i was away, so i am working off of one from that is basically from the "19's" until i can get a replacement this weekend. i guess i have finally received that push to officially get to say i'm a mac user. pretty excited about geeking out and taking those classes where they teach you all about how to use it.

congrats to my best friend and her new hubby! thank you for getting married in paradise.
