chicago photo diary

my apologies for the less than stellar image quality, but wanted to give you a little recap of our weekend in Chicago. the top pic is the view from the Trump Tower, which is definitely quite a view, but with $25 cocktails and glasses of vino i'm not sure it was that good. i would, however, recommend brunch at Nellcote, and bottle service at Paris Club, especially when DJ Havana Brown and Pitbull are on the scene. that was an awesome surprise. oh and a late night pit stop at a blues bar in a semi-sketchy part of town.

the table settings at the wedding were some of the prettiest i have ever seen (go figure, my friend has excellent taste). i particularly loved the hollowed out artichoke hearts filled with candles, and the juxtaposition of the contemporary tables with the organic centerpieces was right on.

in the second photo i am wearing a dress by Custo Barcelono that has insanely long straps which i am not exactly sure how to tie so i decided to wrap the excess around my neck for a '90's choker sort of vibe. i think it turned out well.

Givenchy boots

between these and the Blackson boots, i'd have some happy feet come fall.

Rag & Bone London

two faves: Kate Moss and contemporary basics with a twist retailer Rag & Bone. i am personally loving her as the face of the ad campaign for the London based store. she reminds me that a really well crafted piece, like the coat in the top photo, can be paired with something as simple as a white t-shirt and still give you a stylish yet semi relaxed look. i love looks that are left slightly undone. very effortlessly chic.

before the rain

{Pencey t-shirt dress, Moda Operandi palm clutch, Zara heels (try these for fall), Dior sunnies (similar here)}

anytime i have the option to wear a giant t-shirt as a dress out in public, i am definitely going to take it. this Pencey piece feels more like a nightgown than a maxi, but the extra-long length and thigh high slit make it ever so chic. i am looking forward to carrying it into fall paired with a little leather jacket. despite some of my latest acquisitions,  i am still living in these nude lucite Zara heels. i love the naked effect they have on the leg. my Moda Operandi over-sized palm clutch is the perfect summer bag packed with a punch. i have been on the prowl for a killer cat eye that flatters my face and alas, Dior to the rescue.

miranda kerr

no shock here; per usual, i'm feeling completely inspired by Miranda Kerr's ability to nail understated glamour. i'm loving the look of the tuxedo pant trend. get her pair of A.L.C.'s on sale here. these sleeveless Equipment blouses are perfect for summer and can be worn so many different ways. i love to tie mine over my bikini, over a high-waisted skirt or wear it loose over a pair of shorts. her shoes are Stella, but Manolo Blahnik makes a twin. throw on some round tortoise sunnies and a classic Celine tote et voila - #chic.

pickoftheday

Helmut Lang, the brand that has mastered open weave knits, tailored leather jackets, slouchy/sexy modal tops and asymmetrical hemline skirts, knows how to nail sexy in the most laid back sort of way. i cannot wait to live in this piece come early fall. slightly over-sized tee, banded leather waist, fitted skirt with side slit - the perfect trifecta of details rolled into one awesome piece. currently available on M'O

outfit inspo: printed tees and floral shoes

it's really freaking hot in Houston. therefore, all i want to wear right now are loose fitting tops and of course, my beloved staple; shorts. love the idea of taking a cue from Miranda, and styling a printed tee with some  light wash denim and funky floral shoes. Moda Operandi just added these to the Theyskens' Theory trunk show and i think i have to have them!
