Fall Staples

When it comes to seasonal wardrobe staples, I am always at least one step ahead of the game. I like to scout my splurges months in advance and carefully plan their placement in my closet. I very rarely make impulse purchases, with the exception of vintage. You really cannot linger over one-of-a-kind.

True to form, I have scouted my favorite pieces that would make the perfect canvas for this year's fall wardrobe.

SUMMER BEAUTY ROUTINE

i think it is clear i have come into my 30's. last summer, you may have heard me rattling on about a proper faux tan or a false lash as fundamentals to my summer beauty regime (in my defense, these were to protect from the sun and not have to deal with putting on make-up), and while i am not completely opposed to these things now (for the right occasion only), i have taken a much more au natural approach  to my overall aesthetic. i am into minimal makeup, just eyes (mascara and liner or a touch of creamy shadow) and lips. for my skin, i am slowly trying to work over to all natural, organic products. and for my hair...well that is a never ending story. what i really want is super blonde, middle part, soft wave kate bosworth-ish hair that is effortless and cool. unfortunately (and fortunately, i guess) i have super thick hair that is a total mixture of inconsistent curls. i am actually considering a brazilian blowout, not even for vanity reasons but more so for efficiency and lifestyle purposes. i mean honestly, who wants to spend an entire hour just blow drying their hair?

in my ongoing process of perfecting this routine, i have come across a handful of products that i am keeping on heavy rotation (clockwise from the top):

~Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil to keep my frizz under control until i take the blowout plunge.
~Oribe Conditioner for Brilliance and Shine - seriously does wonders and smells divine.
~La Roche-Posay Sunscreen - the only sunscreen that magically does not cause me to break out.
~Oribe Shampoo for Brilliance and Shine
~Klorane eye make-up remover with cornflower oil - absolutely incredible.
~Organic Olive Oil and Beeswax eye and lip cream. i got this from my facialist who is truly a magician. she gives a two hour facial using all natural organic products that she makes (and sells) herself. her identity is staying in the vault in fear that i will never be able to get an appointment, but if you really want to know - email me.

have any of you ever had a blow out or keratin treatment? results?

DESERTED

 ASOS dress // Givenchy shoes

wearing a mini dress and stilettos in the desert because, you know, that's normal. in addition to ambient sunsets and the perfect dose of dry heat before the sweltering sets in here in Houston, Santa Fe offers incredible food, spa treatments and resort hikes. if you are ever there, order the crab cakes at Geronimo and dine on the patio at The Compound

Cayman

a few more shots from Grand Cayman Island. such a fun and relaxing vacay. if you ever make it to the island, here is a list of must-do's:

~stay at the Ritz. it sits on the prettiest part of 7 mile beach and has everything you need from restaurants to water sports.  the restaurants (Seven and Taikun) are among some of the best on the island. it's a great place to bring kids.
~definitely order a pina colada and a mahi mahi sandwich at Bar Jack. i'm not usually one for frozen drinks but this one it just. too. good.
~dine at Calypso outside at a table by the water. order the famous sticky toffee pudding. the service is incredible and the fish is fresh and delicious. this is a must
~have dinner at Eduardo's and order the mussels. delish! the restaurant sits in the back behind a bar that turns into a nightclub. it's a little misleading but once you tuck around back into the restaurant it opens to a fabulous stone hideaway that resembles an Italian osteria.
~head to Havana club for local live music (call before to make sure there is a band lined up). be sure to note the colorful artwork on the walls by a local artist. i couldn't leave without one.
~have Sunday brunch at Luca
~rent a catamaran for the day and head to Sting Ray City with a stop over at Rum Point.

enjoy!

spring splurge

currently investigating a spring splurge. after drowning in dress shopping and surfacing completely dissatisfied, i have confidently decided that these two separates from my beloved A. Wang will serve me beautifully this season. the rope effect on the back of this knit is too incredible and i am completely in love with the fish-line detail he worked into this otherwise ordinary pair of black boy shorts, among other pieces in this collection

i tried to pretend for a while that black wasn't my favorite color. pfff, sha right.

what are you splurging on this season?

Ulyana Sergeenko Spring 2013 Couture

i adore the Russian beauty, designer and photographer, Ulyana Sergeenko. i first saw her outside of a show at the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris and was immediately taken by her unique beauty and playful nature. she is playful not only in her style of dress but also in her demeanor, with her coy expressions and elusive behavior. she noticed me watching her diligently and paused to give me a warm smile and a little pose, so to give me the opportunity to finish admiring her. it didn't feel narcissistic or boastful, rather, i felt as though she had a heightened sense of awareness regarding exactly why she was there and what she was doing; she was playing with fashion.

this is my favorite part of fashion - the fact that clothing can transform your feelings. who do you want to be today? how would you like to feel? do you want to be ladylike, demure, sexy, cool, funky, childlike, or edgy? and the list goes on.

what i love about Ulyana is that she wants to take you back in time, which she further proved with her spring 2013 couture collection. with Gone with the Wind and Huck Finn as the inspiration for her second couture show, she brought us romantic and fluid silks with ruffled knickers and beautiful waist-cinching one pieces. if i could only have the look from the first image, i would never want for more.

though she may be critiqued for being overly theatrical, i applaud her vision and approach to fashion. i personally adore clothing that borders on costume, without crossing over the line. to me, this is where you can associate fashion with art, because it is infused with so much skill and imagination.

Antonia

{David Peck Antonia Dress, $345, available at Tootsies}

one of my favorites from the David Peck spring 2013 collection - the Antonia dress. i love the neon piping at the neck and the waist, the unique cut of the racertop (front instead of back) and the beautiful green wave print. David has such a knack for beautiful prints. the fabric used for this dress is a mix of hemp and cotton, so in addition to being all natural, it has a stiffness that adds to the structure of the silhouette. all in all, the perfect spring dress.

available at Tootsies and online at David Peck next month.

wardrobe update

on my mind right now: updating my wardrobe with clean whites and nudes for spring. i am thinking romantic and ethereal with touches of modern sophistication. i want a simple white slip dress that i can throw on with a naked heel and a silk blazer. i love that Haute Hippie read my mind and came up with a piece that accomplishes both of these things at once, cue the blazer dress

though my search for the perfect Kenzo baseball cap in nude or navy has proved to no avail, i am still stoked about sporting Rag & Bone's mustard fedora in the meantime, with Karen Walker's Number 6 shades to compliment.
